About

SHARON SMITH THEOBALD, ASA, is president of Appraisal Associates International LLC with offices in Florida and Indiana and is the 2022 President of ASA Indiana. She received her Master's Degree from Hofstra University, New York, completed graduate courses in art history at the New School in New York City and PhD studies at Purdue University. She was the co-editor of the American Society of Appraisers' (ASA) Personal Property Journal while teaching ASA appraisal writing courses at George Washington University and Northwestern University, The Rhode Island School of Design and The University of Missouri, Kansas City. Theobald is the editor of 2020 book, To Give and To Receive: A Handbook on Collection Gifts and Donations for Museums and Donors, published by Rowman and Littlefield with the American Alliance of Museums. AAI completes fine art appraisals for corporate, foundation, museum, private and university collections. Theobald chaired the Legal Education Panel on Current Tax and Estate Issues for attorneys throughout the state of Indiana and has lectured on American, African-American and Latin American Art and Artists. She served as Director of the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette and President of the Foundation Board of Directors, Chair of Friends of Contemporary Art and developed collections of modern and contemporary art, sculpture and photography. She has also served as an expert witness in valuation legal cases.
